Summary:
The Centre for Long-Term Resilience, a leading think tank transforming global resilience to extreme risk, is seeking an experienced and talented grant writer to work with us on a contractor basis.
In this role, you will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding for our various research initiatives, and policy development programs and creating impact reports and other external communication pieces.

Salary: This is a contract position with an approximate hourly rate of £60 an hour, however, if the hourly rate is a barrier to you applying please get in touch as we are willing to increase the rate for an excellent candidate.
Type: Hours are flexible, and projects will be completed on an as-needed basis. However, the successful candidate should expect between 40-60 hours of work per month.
Location: The CLTR team is based in the heart of Whitehall and successful candidates will be entitled to use our fantastic office space and encouraged to meet the team to gain a thorough understanding of our work. However, this is a remote, flexible position with no set work hours or workplace but with the expectation that updates will be shared regularly with the team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough prospect research to identify relevant grant opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, HNWIs and other funding sources that align with our organisation’s priorities in risk management, biosecurity and Artificial Intelligence risk.
- Work collaboratively with our Director of Strategic Partnerships and policy experts to craft compelling, well-written grant proposals for trusts and foundations, government bids and U/HNW proposals that effectively communicate our mission, research and policy objectives, and proposed use of funds.
- Craft propositions and pitches that capture CLTR’s work to help raise unrestricted funds for the organisation as a whole and by policy unit.
- Craft impact reports for awarded grants and donations, and support on the creation of the organisation’s annual report.
- Ensure all grant proposals adhere to specific guidelines, formatting, and submission requirements of each funder, whilst incorporating CLTR’s brand guidelines
- Manage the grant submission process, including preparing required documents, forms, and supplemental materials, reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships.
- Maintain a detailed calendar and tracking system to monitor grant deadlines, status updates, and award notifications.
- Collaborate closely with our policy experts, operations and leadership team to gather necessary information and supporting materials for grant submissions.
- Provide regular progress reports and share completed grant proposals with the organisation’s leadership team and strategy unit.
- Be available for occasional meetings or check-ins (virtual or in-person) to discuss project status and next steps.
- Support with wider writing and communications needs on an ad-hoc basis for the external affairs and policy units unit.
Experience:
- 5+ years of proven experience as a grant writer, preferably in the think tank sector or with some understanding or knowledge of our policy areas (Artificial Intelligence risk, Biosecurity and Risk Management).
- Track record of producing high-quality fundraising proposals that have secured gifts at £100,000+ level.
- Up-to-date knowledge of best practices and innovation in fundraising content for corporations, trusts, foundations, and philanthropy audiences within the sector.
- Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to translate and adapt complex, detailed information into relatable and accessible content.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively liaise with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Familiarity with grant management and reporting tools such as Salesforce (preferred).
- A deep understanding of Trusts and Foundation, Philanthropic and corporate fundraising, donor motivations for giving and the different content requirements from different donor audiences.
