James Ginns

As Director of Risk Management Policy, James leads our work on effective risk management and mitigation. Working closely with policymakers, he provides insight and expertise on improving risk management and governance in the UK and internationally, applying best practice risk management and processes to help transform resilience to extreme risks.

James has published articles on resilience in the New Statesman and the Financial Times and provided oral expert evidence on resilience at a hearing of the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy in March 2023.

James was previously Chief Risk Officer of Cathay Pacific, and has held a number of other senior leadership positions at the Swire Group.

As well as having significant risk management expertise in the private sector, James has extensive experience in the non-profit sector, through a previous advisory role at the Mekong Club, and a previous management role at a UNHCR centre for Vietnamese refugees.

James is also a Research Affiliate at Cambridge University’s Centre for the Study of Existential Risk and holds a BA (Hons) Modern History degree from Oxford University.
